With only the Drama Day at Helen’s to bring another LWG’s year to a conclusion, the AGM on 27th April was a painless and satisfactory occasion, and calories and comedic comments were rather nice add-ons.
Reports were given from Alison in the Chair, from Bill as Treasurer and from Evie as out-going Secretary, with nary an ill word said – so that bodes well for a club which is obviously in good fettle. Office Bearers and Committee Members all stood down, as they do each year, and Alison was re-elected Chairperson, Jack as Vice-Chairperson, and Bill as Treasurer and Speakers Secretary. Ross was elected as the new Secretary. Joanie and George retired from the committee; Rose and Cara were re-elected for another year; Ina and Val were elected as new committee members. A good team!
Tony’s very impressive certificates were presented to winners of competitions throughout the year: Alasdair, Alison, Anne, Bill, Cara, Evie, Faith, Ina, Jim, Judith, Kate, Lucy, Neil, Rose and Ross. Trophies were presented for Drama, and Writing For Children, to Alasdair; for Article Writing to Judith, for Poetry to Neil, and for General Short Story to Evie.
There were thank-yous said to hard-working folk, of course, and Alison made the point that LWG would founder without the support and enthusiasm, and not only in writing, from members. She also emphasised that our newsletter The Pencil is successful because of members’ in-put from which LWG benefits. Alasdair graciously accorded thanks to Alison and Evie for putting it all together and getting it out each month, which was much appreciated.
Altogether it was a happy morning, and there were helpful suggestions for the committee to consider for next year’s programme.
